While traditionally an Australian Football League city, Melbourne has a long Rugby history. Each winter there is a local Rugby League competition, but the real activity kicks in when block-buster events come to town including two or three Test Matches each year. Watch The Wallabies (the Australian team) take on a variety of nations in competitions such as the Bledisloe Cup and Tri Nations.

If Rugby League is more your style local side The Melbourne Storm, a member of the national competition, is based at Olympic Park in the heart of the sports precinct on the banks of the Yarra River. Dubbed 'the Graveyard' by fans, Olympic Park's cauldron-like atmosphere has become renowned around the league.  In its second year, The Melbourne Storm won the national league competition. The 2009 season kicks off in late March.
